WALKABOUT MAPS: Cairn's Dark Forests
A downloadable game
This deep dive of Walkabout Maps: A collaborative walking setting- and map-making game focuses on dark fantasy forests for Yochai Gal’s roleplaying game Cairn, or your RPG of choice. Cairn explores “a dark and mysterious Wood filled with strange folk, hidden treasure, and unspeakable monstrosities.”
Walkabout Maps is a collaborative walking map-making and setting-building game for one or more players between 0 and 110 years of age. Grab a pencil, paper, dice, and your shoes and start walking.
As you walk, use different setting-building focuses to stimulate your imagination. When you finish, you will have created a map with a detailed setting you can use in your games, creative writing, or as an adventure to publish or share. You will have created a forest that is interesting, exciting, and unusual. Somewhere unforgettable.
